Tatev & Wings of Tatev cable car
Tatev Monastery, founded in the 9th century, stands at the edge of a deep gorge in southern Armenia and once held one of the most important medieval universities in the Caucasus. The journey there is half the experience: we cross the Vorotan canyon on the 'Wings of Tatev' — the longest reversible aerial tramway in the world, listed in the Guinness Book.
From the gondola, the views are otherworldly: vertical cliffs, the river snaking far below, and the monastery itself appearing on the opposite side as if floating. On site, we'll explore the monastery courtyards, churches, and the unique 'swinging pillar' — a stone monument that, according to legend, would tilt to warn of approaching enemies.
This is a long day, but one of the most spectacular tours we offer.
